The Boeing 747-8 is a wide-body jet airliner developed
by Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
The 747-8 is offered in two main variants: the 747-8 Intercontinental (747-8I)
for passengers and the 747-8 Freighter (747-8F) for cargo. The first 747-8F
performed the model's made flight on February 8, 2010, with the 747-8
Intercontinental following on March 20, 2011.
Delivery of the first freighter aircraft occurred in October 2011 and the
passenger model began deliveries in 2012. As of October 2015, confirmed orders
for the 747-8 total 119,comprising 68 of the freighter version, and 51 of the
passenger version.
Boeing
has developed what they are calling the lightest metal ever and it's 99.9
percent air.
It's so light that if you blow on it in your hand it
floats to the ground like a feather and doesn't compress a dandelion when sat
on top of it.
With better technology, these new material breakthroughs are becoming more
common, which is a good thing.
These new lightweight materials are able to replace
much bulkier ones, making our vehicles, aircraft and even our gadgets more
lightweight.and energy efficient.
The material called Microlattice appears solid from the outside, but inside it
actually has an open cellular structure similar to bone or honeycombs, which
allows it to be both super durable and lightweight.
The material will soon be used by Boeing in airplanes and rockets to cut down
on their weight,create more room within the fuselage and increase fuel efficiency,
all while still being tough enough to endure the rigors of flight.
The mesh material is compressible which allows it to absorb energy as well as
materials much thicker and heavier than it.
Sophia Yang, research scientist of architected materials at HRL Labs,who worked
on the material for Boeing says that one layer wrapped around an egg would
allow it to survive a 25-story drop unscathed.
A new device that can detect,
target and deter unmaned commercial drones could be used to keep the
flying robots away from areas where they're not wanted, like government
properties,airports or your own backyard.
The new Anti-UAV Defense System (AUDS) was developed by three tech companies in the United Kingdom. It has a radar detection component, advanced tracking capabilities and a sneaky little onboard device that keeps drones at bay.Rather than melting drones in midair.
AUDS shoots the flying vehicles with something that doesn't destroy them — radio waves. Drone operators typically communicate with, and direct, the aerial bots using radio signals.

SmartPill is an ingestible capsule that measures pressure, pH and temperature as it travels through the gastrointestinal (GI) tract to assess GI motility.
