Remote controls
are devices that operate other electronic devices from a distance,
typically wirelessly, using signals like infrared or radio frequency. They
are commonly used for consumer electronics like televisions, DVD players, and
home media systems, as well as for garage door openers and other automated
devices. Modern remote controls can also be virtual, turning a smartphone
into a remote control through an app.
When you press a
button, the remote sends a coded message to the target device. They use different types of signals. Infrared
(IR) uses light signals to communicate. It's
the most common type for consumer electronics, but the line of sight must be
clear. Radio Frequency (RF) uses radio waves, which can pass through walls
and obstacles, making them ideal for garage door openers and some home
entertainment systems. Bluetooth pairs with devices via Bluetooth,
offering a reliable connection and used in some smart TVs and streaming
remotes.
